Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) is standing firm on his controversial policies that grant illegal immigrants access to drivers’ licenses, state-funded tuition, and healthcare benefits, claiming these measures contribute to the state's safety and prosperity. Walz signed into law several progressive policies, including the expansion of drivers’ licenses for undocumented immigrants in March 2023. The “Drivers Licenses for All” bill allows anyone in the state, regardless of their legal status, to obtain a license. This policy makes Minnesota one of nearly two dozen states offering such a benefit, a move that Walz argues improves road safety because licensed drivers can legally acquire insurance, reducing the number of uninsured motorists on the road. He boasted that Minnesota now has some of the "safest roads" in the country.

However, Walz faced sharp criticism from conservative circles during his interview with Fox News' Shannon Bream. The host highlighted how The Wall Street Journal criticized these benefits, arguing that they act as a "magnet" for illegal immigration, encouraging more individuals to take dangerous journeys to the U.S., knowing such resources await them. In response, Walz rejected these concerns, stating that the policies align with Minnesota’s values of inclusivity, while improving business rankings and healthcare access. He emphasized that Minnesota is one of the top five states for business and child welfare, alongside ranking high in healthcare access.
Aside from drivers' licenses, Walz defended providing free tuition for undocumented students at state universities. Under his administration, undocumented students whose families earn less than $80,000 annually can now qualify for this program. Critics argue that this burdens Minnesota taxpayers, diverting resources from citizens to illegal immigrants. Walz countered that education for all, regardless of immigration status, is critical for the state's future workforce and economic health.
