Committee members focused heavily on a cache of more than 200 emails between Band and Ghislaine Maxwell sent between 2001 and 2004. In these messages, Maxwell used sexual nicknames for Band, calling him “pimp,” “lover,” and even saying he was “hung like a horse,” and once writing, “Did I mention how sexy you are.” Band admitted to lawmakers that he flirted with Maxwell but insisted there was no physical relationship and no affair, describing her publicly as “a monster” after her conviction.
Band confirmed that an email address tied to Clinton in the released Epstein files was in fact his own and that no one else had access to it. That means the flirtatious and personal emails from Maxwell were sent directly to Band, not to Clinton or other staff. Despite the volume and tone of the messages, Band told the panel he did not recall sending specific emails to Maxwell and often claimed he could not remember the details of their exchanges, a pattern that raised eyebrows on the committee.
Flights, Gifts, and Convenient Amnesia
Documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act show Band appearing more than 200 times in federal files related to Epstein and Maxwell. These records include over 35 flights Band took with Epstein and Maxwell between 2002 and 2006 and note that Epstein and Maxwell gave Band an expensive watch as a Christmas gift during that period. The House committee cited these trips and gifts as evidence of a close social relationship with a convicted sex offender that went far beyond casual contact.
Despite this paper trail, Band repeatedly told investigators that he did not recall meaningful conversations with Epstein on those flights. Walk-Back on Epstein Island Claim and Media Response
Band’s most glaring reversal involved Epstein’s private island. In a 2020 Vanity Fair interview, Band said Clinton visited the island in 2003. During his recent House testimony, Band walked that back, saying he now has “no evidence” that Clinton went there and claiming he does not remember why he made the earlier statement. Clinton has also told the committee that he has “never” been to the island, and flight logs made public so far do not show such a trip.

Band has not been charged with any crime, and legal experts note there is no direct evidence he knew about or took part in Epstein’s abuse. Major media outlets like ABC and CNN framed his testimony as evasive and “amnesic” but stopped short of alleging criminal behavior. Conservative and independent outlets, by contrast, highlighted what they called an “embarrassing” and “humiliating” day for Band, pointing to the flirtatious emails, lavish gifts, and dense flight record as signs of a deeper problem: a political class that mixes comfortably with sex offenders while insisting they saw nothing and remember less.
